Catching bass during the prespawn period is often a hit-or-miss proposition. One day they're there, the next they're not. Bass enter a period of stress and instability as winter changes to spring, and their behavior may change markedly from day to day, frustrating many anglers.
I like it when my guide fishes with me on a booked trip. That's particularly true when I'm the only client, as was the case on a recent outing.
Immediately following the spawn is not usually a productive time for catching smallmouth bass. They are exhausted from the rigors of courtship and tend to be a little fickle. But they can still be caught.
One of the more overlooked angling options is that provided by smallmouth bass in smaller flowing waters, low gradient streams, the kind that get too warm for trout during the summer. Big creeks such as this often provide ideal habitat for smallmouth bass.
Since they were accidentally trapped in Santee-Cooper lakes in South Carolina over half a century ago, striped bass have been introduced in hundreds of lakes throug
